Eems Transporter' April 2011. Grounding off Karpathos
On 3 April the general cargo vessel 'Eems Transporter' ran aground off Karpathos Island, Greece. The unfortunate vessel was heavily aground on rocks.

LOF
After an initial refloating attempt by using a tug only, SMIT Salvage together with Megatugs were contracted on 9 April under Lloyds Open Form terms and conditions to refloat the stricken vessel.

A crane barge was prepared for the envisaged works and mobilized to offload part of the cargo of steel coils.

Backloaded and redelivered
After the lightering operation the 'Aegean Pelagos' pulled her free off of the rocks after which the cargo was backloaded. Following a dive inspection and temporary repairs the 'Eems Transporter' was subsequently redelivered on 19 April.
