Armed guards have saved a Greek tanker from pirates PDF Print E-mail

Pirates1Armed guards have saved a Greek tanker from pirates during a weekend attack in the Somali Basin.

Seaworld Management & Trading's 107,500-dwt Sea Voyager (built 2009) was set upon around 350 miles from the Somali coast on Sunday, TradeWinds is told.

Armed pirates in two skiffs attacked the tanker and were seen to be readying to fire at the ship.

A flurry of flares and warning shots from the security team of three, however, was enough to put the pirates off.

A crew of 23 was on board the Marshal Islands-flagged ship when the attack took place.

Seaworld has a mixed fleet of 14 tankers and bulkers, Clarksons says.
